About the Authentic Tibetan Rug Company
Kathy McKay
My brother, John McKay has been in the cashmere business in Tibet for the past seven years. While visiting him in Tibet, I met Tashi-la, the proprietor of the primary Tibetan rug weaving facility in Lhasa.
After spending time observing the process of weaving and finishing the rugs I came to appreciate their craftmanship and beauty.
Returning to the US, I discussed with Guy Banks what I had seen. Guy had always known of Tibetan rugs and expressed an interest in bringing some to the US.
Following the first and only visit of Ms. Tashi-la to the US, Guy and I began importing rugs to the US to show and to sell.
Beginning in a small store front in south Minneapolis, the Authentic Tibetan Rug Company built up a clientelle and in March of 2003 we moved to our present showroom location. We now ship rugs throughout North America.
The substance and beauty of the rugs still suprise me.
